Whirlpool Dryer WED6400SW0 Error Code F22

Asked by: george eilers on December 30, 2021

My Whirlpool dryer displays an F22 error. It starts running, begins to warm up, and then shuts down after several minutes with the F22 error appearing. This issue occurs on all heat cycles. However, when using the "Air Only" setting, the dryer completes the full timed cycle and turns off normally. What could be causing this issue?

Thank you,
George

For the Whirlpool model WED6400SW0, the F22 error typically points to a faulty thermistor, which is responsible for monitoring the dryer’s temperature. When the thermistor fails, it can cause improper temperature regulation, leading to the dryer shutting down prematurely during heat cycles.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Inspect the Thermistor: Use a multimeter to test the thermistor for proper resistance. A defective thermistor will need to be replaced.
  2. Check Wiring: Ensure that the connections to the thermistor are secure and not damaged.
  3. Clear Obstructions: Verify that the exhaust vent is clear of any blockages, as restricted airflow can contribute to overheating and affect the thermistor’s readings.

Replacing the thermistor should resolve the issue and restore normal functionality to the dryer. The thermistor you need for your model dryer is linked below.
