Why does my dryer take forever to dry a load of clothes?

Asked by: Ronnie on September 26, 2018

My dryer in the last week or so has started to take a much longer time than usual to dry a load of clothes, what could cause it to do that?

In most cases, when your dryer is heating but taking longer to dry a load, it’s usually due to an airflow issue. Start by checking the dryer exhaust vent hose—the hose that runs from the dryer to the vent on your home. Make sure it’s not pinched or clogged. If the hose is clear, the problem is likely with the vent on your home, which may need cleaning due to a blockage.

When there’s an airflow problem, the hot air inside the dryer can’t escape properly, causing it to back up in the dryer. This makes the heating element cycle on and off more frequently, which in turn, extends the drying time.
