Why is my refrigerator not cooling properly?

Asked by: Mary on August 18, 2024

My refrigerator has suddenly stopped cooling effectively. The freezer is working fine, but the fridge compartment is warm. What could be causing this issue?

If your refrigerator is not cooling properly but the freezer is still working, the issue could be related to a few common problems. First, check if the evaporator fan motor is functioning. This fan is responsible for circulating cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. If the fan motor is faulty or obstructed, it can cause the refrigerator compartment to warm up.

Another possible cause is a blocked or frozen evaporator coil. If the coil is covered in ice, it can prevent proper air circulation. Defrost the refrigerator and ensure the coil is clear of any ice buildup.

Lastly, inspect the temperature control settings. If the thermostat is set too low, it might not be triggering the cooling system correctly. Adjust the settings and monitor the cooling performance.

These are some basic troubleshooting steps you can take to diagnose why your refrigerator isn’t cooling properly.
