My washing machine fills with water and goes through the wash cycle, but it doesn’t spin the clothes. What could be causing this issue?
If your washing machine is not spinning, it really depends on what washer model you have as it can be different cause for different washers. If you want a model specific answer you will need to tell us what brand and model washer you have. Below is a few common reasons a washer won't spin.
There are a few common issues to check. First, ensure that the load is balanced. An unbalanced load can cause the washer to stop spinning to prevent damage. Try redistributing the clothes and running the spin cycle again.
Another possible cause is a faulty lid switch. The lid switch signals the washer when the lid is closed and allows it to spin. If the switch is broken or not engaging properly, the washer will not spin. You can test the switch with a multimeter or inspect it for any visible damage.
Additionally, a broken drive belt could be the culprit. If the belt is loose, worn, or broken, the washer drum won’t spin. Inspect the belt for wear and tear, and replace it if necessary.
Lastly, check the motor coupling. In some washing machines, a motor coupling connects the motor to the washer drum. If the coupling is damaged, the washer won’t spin. Replacing the motor coupling can resolve this issue.
