Learn how to troubleshoot and fix Kenmore range error codes F90, F91, F92, F93, and F94 with our step-by-step guide. Identify issues with the oven door lock motor assembly, door light switch, wiring, or main control board. Access detailed instructions with images to diagnose and resolve these common errors on your Kenmore range.
If your Kenmore range is displaying error codes F90, F91, F92, F93, or F94, it indicates a problem that needs troubleshooting to identify the faulty component. These errors can be caused by several issues, including a malfunctioning oven door lock motor assembly, a defective door light switch, wiring issues, or a faulty main control board. Follow this step-by-step guide to diagnose and fix the problem.
First, unplug the range from the power source and carefully pull it out so you can access the back of the unit. Remove the rear access panel by taking out the screws along the bottom lip of the panel (see image below).
With the rear panel removed, locate the oven door lock motor assembly at the top right. Using an ohm meter, check the wiring between the main control board and the micro switch on the door lock assembly. To access the wiring, you may also need to remove the top console access panel. If the wiring is intact and the connector is securely seated at the control, proceed to test the micro switch on the oven door lock motor assembly. If the switch is open, it's faulty and needs to be replaced. Additionally, check the motor coil for continuity; it should be a closed circuit. Also, inspect for any obstructions that could prevent the lock motor rod or cam from operating correctly.
If the oven door lock motor assembly checks out, the next component to inspect is the door light switch. This switch is activated when the oven door is closed. To access the door switch, open the oven door and remove the screws located under the overhang of the range top. Once these screws are removed, lift the range top to gain access to the door switch. Unplug the wiring harness connected to the door switch and test the switch with a meter. If the switch is faulty, remove it by squeezing the top and bottom metal retaining clips and pushing it through the front of the range.
If all the previous checks have shown that the oven door lock motor assembly, door light switch, and wiring are functioning correctly, the issue likely lies with the main control board. The main control board is responsible for managing all of the range's operations, including the door lock and safety systems. A malfunction in this board can cause the F90, F91, F92, F93, or F94 error codes to appear.
To access the main control board, follow these steps:
If you determine that the main control board is faulty, you will need to replace it. Here’s how:
