Troubleshooting and Repair - E1 Error Code - GEW9250PW0
The Whirlpool Duet Dryer Error E1 means the control has detected that the thermistor is open. This error can be a wiring issue from the control to the thermistor or a bad thermistor. In some cases it can be a bad control reporting false errors but this is not common. The thermistor is almost always the cause of the E1 error. The thermistor is located on the dryer blower wheel housing at the top next to the thermal fuse. Part ordering and replacement information for the thermistor can found at the link below.

E1 Error
Asked By Steve West
My Whirlpool Dryer model# GEW9250PW1 ran fine, but had no heat.
I purchased the Dryer Thermal Fuse, didn't work, still no heat
Then ordered Dryer Thermistor. Still no heat.
Finally ordered the Dryer Heating Element and now have heat. However the dryer turns off after about a minute with an E1 error.
What do you suggest?
Answered By MasterTech
If you replaced the thermistor and still get the E1 error then the control board is bad and needs to be replaced. The board you need for your model is linked below:
FIRSTLY THE LID WAS NOT UNLOCKING. I OPENED IT MANUALLY.NOW.. THE MACHINE IS NOT STARTING BUT THE WATERSOLENOID IS ACTIVATING FOR IT SELF

If you unplug the washer and it contiues to fill then the water level pressure switch is bad. If it stops when you unplug it but still fills on it's own when you plug it back in the main board has failed. Both parts for that model are linked below:

If you are getting the E1 error you should replace the thermistor. In most cases that error is caused by a failed thermistor. In some cases it can be a bad control board but it's more common for the thermistor to be causing the problem. You can order the thermistor from the link below:
Whirlpool Duet Dryer E1 Error Code. I can set the dryer to run on air only and it’s no problem, as soon as I turn on the heat I get an E1 code. What do you think the issue is?

The E1 error code is normally caused by a failed thermistor. Part ordering and replacement information for the thermistor can found at the link below.
Duet Dryer Runs For 30 Seconds And Shuts Off Showing E1 Error Code After Replacing Thermistor
Asked By frankie
My dryer is turning on fine, but only running for 30 secounds or so and then shutting down. Then displaying an error code of e-1. I replaced the thermistor, but I'm having the same result. What do you think the problem is?
Answered By MasterTech
That issue is going to be caused by either a wiring problem between the thermistor and control board or the control board has failed. Check the wiring if it all looks ok replace the control board. The replacement control board can be ordered from the link below. That page also has instructions to change the board if you don't know how.

Model GGW9250PW1. Please advise, he thinks maybe circuit board, but he can’t find one at a reasonable price to try.
Answered By MasterTech
With what you have stated I second his opinion on the issue being the control board. I don't know what you consider a reasonable price but you can get those boards on ebay from between $80.00 - $250. The part number for your board is 8546219. If you search that part number on Ebay you will find the listings. You can save yourself a lot of money ordering the part and replacing it yourself. The video below shows how to change out the board, it's fairly easy.

How do I access the thermistor?
Asked By Chris
I would like to know how to access and replace the thermistor on model GGW9250PL1.
Answered By MasterTech
To access or replace the thermistor unplug the dryer then remove the bottom access panel. There are three screws right at the bottom lip of the panel, take those out and remove the access panel. Take the lint filter out of the lint filter housing and remove the screws that hold the lint filter housing in place, slide it down and set it out of the way. Once the lint filter housing is off you will have access to the top side of the blower wheel housing. The thermistor is on top of the blower wheel housing on the far right, the thermal fuse is on the left side. Disconnect the wires from the thermistor terminals and remove the two 1/4 inch screws holding it in place and it will lift out. You can order the replacement thermistor from the link below if you don't have one yet.
